Updated November 1, 2026 Client portal: your client changes their name

November 1, 2026

Client portal: your client changes their name

Where: Client portal › My profile

Your client sees their name under Your name and can correct it. You see the new name, and it appears on their future signatures. Signatures already made keep the name of the day they signed.

October 27, 2026

Client portal: scheduled and recurring requests

Where: Client portal › New request, Delivery step

Client portal: the Ledger catalogue and your request templates

Where: Client portal › New request, Add an item

Client portal: the Requests tab of the headquarters

Where: Client portal › Requests

Every bundled request of the firm in one place, without opening client pages one by one: client, due date, progress. The In progress, Overdue, Completed and Drafts pills sort them; a draft can be resumed from there.

Client portal: declaration, document handed over, optional document

Where: Client portal › New request, Add an item

A request can now hold everything you expect from a client, not only files.

Client portal: reminders count from sending

Where: Settings › Client portal › Scheduled reminders, and the Delivery step of New request

A requested document, a questionnaire or a document to sign is now reminded every N days from sending, whether or not it has a due date. Before, nothing went out without a due date.

Client portal: bundled requests and their editor

Where: Client portal › New request, at the top of the headquarters or of a client's page

A request now gathers everything you need from a client: documents to upload, a questionnaire and documents to sign, sent together.

Client portal: questionnaires in “To provide”

Where: client portal › To provide

Your client now has a single menu for everything you need from them. The Questionnaires menu is gone: questionnaires to fill out are in To provide, with the documents to upload.

Client portal: a clearer client page

Where: Client portal › Clients › a client

A client's portal page now has a single header and opens on what there is to do.

October 26, 2026

Client portal: an easier-to-read headquarters

Where: sidebar › Client portal

The portal headquarters was reworked to read at a glance.

Alberta and the other provinces: Ledger follows the client's province

Where: the client's information › address › Province, and Settings › Firm › Province for your firm's defaults

Ledger was built for Quebec and Ontario. A client in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba or the territories now gets the right taxes, forms and wording everywhere, with no setting to change: everything follows the province in the client's address.

For a client created before, check the Province in its information: without one, Ledger treats it as a Quebec client.

Pipelines: a stage that opens a new invoice

Where: Pipelines › gear next to the pipeline name (Configure the pipeline) › under a stage, Invoice on entry › New invoice

You no longer need an invoice template to bill from a pipeline. Choose New invoice on the stage where you bill, for example "Billing". When you drag a card into that stage, the invoice editor opens, already addressed to the card's client: add your lines, then Save or Save and send.

October 12, 2026

Groupings: see the accounts behind a line and reclassify them in place

Where: Engagement › Accounting cycles › Groupings (by group & GIFI), "N accounts" button on each subtotal

An account filed under the wrong grouping can now be fixed without going back to the trial balance. On a subtotal line, for example OPERATING EXPENSES, click "6 accounts": a window lists the trial balance accounts that make up this financial statement line.

  1. Click an account's grouping and type a word, for example bank fees. Each result shows its code, its label and its section.
  2. The Impact before applying block shows the lines that move (before, after, change, and the prior year), net income, the balance sheet check and the GIFI line on the T2. A warning appears when the account changes section, for example from an expense to an asset: net income then changes.
  3. Click Apply. The change is the same as in the trial balance, and Undo stays available for a few seconds.

October 11, 2026

Bulk grouping edit: the catalog always at hand

Where: Engagement › Working papers › Tools › Bulk grouping edit

The tool is reorganized into two panels. On the left, the engagement's accounts; on the right, the grouping catalog, always visible, laid out in financial statement order with its own search. Check accounts, then click a grouping: it applies right away, with no action bar or menu to reopen between batches.

  1. The "To group" filter shows only the accounts without a grouping, and its counter goes down as you work: the list empties itself.
  2. Shift + click checks a range; the header checkbox checks everything the search shows.
  3. After each application, Undo stays available for a few seconds: every account gets back the exact grouping it had.

A calculation in any amount field

Where: anywhere you type an amount, a rate or hours, including Split transaction, Bank reconciliation, the Capital assets and Long-term debt worksheets, invoices, Materiality, compilation forms and tax remittance emails

No more reaching for the calculator. Type 25.21+261.80: when you leave the field, or press Enter, Ledger replaces the calculation with its result, 287.01. All four operations and parentheses work, for example (1200+300)/12, with a comma or a period. In Split transaction, the Allocated total follows the calculation as you type. Before, some of these fields kept only the first number and others refused the entry. Rates keep their decimals: 5+9.975 gives 14.975.

October 4, 2026

Passwords: the requirements show before sending

Where: client portal, Welcome and Profile screens; Ledger's Choose a password screen

Your clients no longer guess the rules. Under the password field, the Password requirements box lists what is required (at least 10 characters, one lowercase letter, one uppercase letter, one number and one symbol) and ticks each rule as they type. It also reminds them that a password exposed in a known data leak is refused. In French or English, following the screen's language. Passwords already chosen keep working.

Help videos show up where you need them

Where: Groupings page, under the balance checks; Out of balance badge on the financial statements; under the title of the Capital assets, Long-term debt and Income taxes worksheets

No need to go through the Help Center to find the right tutorial. When Groupings flags an account with no grouping or a rounding difference, the line Need help? A troubleshooting video covers this topic. appears under the checks: Watch the video plays it in a window, without leaving the page. On the financial statements, the Out of balance badge shows the play icon when a video covers the cause, and a click opens it. The Capital assets, Long-term debt and Income taxes worksheets offer their step-by-step video under their title. The window also offers Read the help article, in a new tab.

October 3, 2026

Engagement client information: no more Save button

Where: in an engagement, Client information page

Every change saves on its own, less than a second after you stop typing, and right away if you move to another page. At the top right, Ledger shows Saving… then Saved. A field that can't be saved yet is flagged in red in the same spot, without holding back the rest of the form: an empty partner in charge, an empty legal name or a half-typed fiscal year date keep their previous value until you complete them. The Edit window on the client's card keeps its Save button.

The Help Center fits on one page, with search

Where: Help button at the top of the app

Every article is listed on the left, by section, and the chosen article opens on the right without leaving the app: no more new tab or way back to find. The Search help box searches the text of the articles, not just their titles: each result leads to the right section, with the searched words highlighted. The arrow keys pick a result, Enter opens it, Esc clears the search. The play icon marks the articles that have a video.

Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+E for an entry, Alt+1 to 9 for pages

Where: everywhere in the app; the Alt keys are shown in grey in the engagement's left menu

Ctrl+E opens the new entry window from any page, on top of the current page (outside an engagement, Ledger first asks which one). In the window, Ctrl+Enter saves the entry and starts over, empty, for the next one, with the same date. Alt+1 to Alt+9 go to the engagement's pages: trial balance, adjusting entries, virtual case, groupings, bank transactions, general ledger, reconciliation, tax report and financial statements. Ctrl+K search finds pages too. Learn more

Duplicate an entry, for the ones that come back every month

Where: Adjusting entries page, Duplicate icon on each entry, and bottom of the edit window (general ledger included)

An operation entry or an adjusting entry is copied in one click: the new entry opens with the same accounts, amounts, description and reference, dated the following month. Adjust what changes and save; the original entry stays as is. A month-end entry stays at month end. Learn more

Tax report: exceptions, as in QuickBooks

Where: Tax report, bottom of the page, Post the entry and file button

You now file by posting the remittance entry, at the bottom of the report (or File the period when there is nothing to remit), and the return closes its period. If a transaction in that period changes afterwards (corrected invoice, transaction added late or deleted), the return already filed stays as is: the difference becomes an exception, reported in the next return. The report then shows Amount, Exception and Total columns, and a section lists each difference with its original period, the amount filed and the current amount, so it can be explained during an audit. The remittance entry and the client email follow the total.

A warning before touching a period already filed

Where: Bank transactions and Adjusting entries pages

Before you categorize, change, send back to review, deactivate or delete a transaction dated in a tax period already filed, a message asks you to confirm. Only the latest return can be reopened, from the History tab, the same way reconciliations are undone in order. This is not recommended if it has already been filed.

October 1, 2026

Deactivate an entry, as in CaseWare

Where: Adjusting entries page, Deactivate icon on each entry

While reviewing the file, deactivate an entry to see the financial statements without it. It stays in the list, greyed out, with its number, but no longer has any effect: TB, financial statements, general ledger, taxes, roll-forward and QuickBooks ignore it. If it is correct, Reactivate puts it back. A banner counts deactivated entries so none is forgotten. Learn more

Financial statements go to the portal already loaded

Where: financial statements print preview, Send to portal button

The deposit opens with the statements PDF ready, exactly as displayed: no more printing to PDF and then depositing the file. The PDF is sharp (real text, not an image) and light. The deposit now offers No signature or With signature: financial statements often go out for information, asking nothing of the client. Your choice is remembered for next time.

New client: their email is also their access

Where: Client portal › Clients tab › New client

The email entered at creation also opens portal access: Create and invite sends the invitation in one go. Uncheck the box to invite later. In the Access section, Invite suggests the email from the client's record.

Worksheets adjust the difference to the books

Where: Adjusting entry tab of the Long-term debt worksheet, Entry tab of Capital assets, Adjusting entry section of Prepaid expenses and Accrued liabilities

As with investment income, each entry is now prepared in two modes: Full entry, or Adjust the difference to the books. In the second, the worksheet brings its accounts to the balance it computes (the schedule's closing balance for a loan, accumulated depreciation, prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities) and posts only the difference with what is already in the books. Steps 1, 2 and 3 of Long-term debt and Capital assets are gone: no more checkbox to reverse an entry. An Accounts affected table shows, for each account, the book balance, the adjustment and the balance after. For accrued liabilities, last year's entry no longer has to be reversed by hand.

"Entry already prepared": the same everywhere

Where: every worksheet that produces an entry

  1. The blue banner "Entry already prepared by this worksheet" and the Replace / Keep both choice now appear on every worksheet, including GST/QST by period and the Tax report remittance, one entry per period. The investment income reconciliation, home office and tax remittance used to lose the link to their entry when the page was reloaded: this is fixed.
  2. The same number everywhere: the banner, the dialog and the confirmation show the number from the adjusting entries list ("#14").
  3. When adjusting the difference, Replace gives the existing entry the full difference, and Keep both creates an entry for the remaining difference only.
  4. The sales tax reconciliation takes into account the adjusting entries already posted to the sales tax accounts.

The client portal gets its help, with real screenshots

Where: Help center › Client portal

Five articles cover the portal end to end, with real screenshots of the application (fictional data): The client portal: getting started, Documents and document requests, Get a document signed, Portal messaging and What your client sees. The last one can be forwarded as is to a client who needs a hand.

Messaging, redone

Where: Client portal › Messages tab, and the Messages section of a client's page

  1. The author's name on every message, on both sides: your client knows who is writing, and you know who on the team replied.
  2. Read receipts: one gray checkmark for sent, two green checkmarks for read, the time on hover.
  3. Real formatting, visible as you type: bold, italic, underline, highlighter (click again to remove it), lists, links and emoji, with Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+U. The buttons light up based on where the cursor is.
  4. Attachments in messages, on both sides: 25 MB per file, ten per message.
  5. Attach a document already on the portal: the folder icon, next to the paperclip, links an existing document to the message without copying it. Your client opens it the same way as from My documents.
  6. The conversation fills the full height of the screen at the headquarters, and the whole screen on your client's side.

Your own domain, self-serve

Where: Settings › Client portal › Your own domain

Add client.yourfirm.ca, copy the CNAME record shown field by field at your registrar, click Verify: that's it. Once active, clients who type this address land straight on their portal, in your name, and invitations, sign-in links and notices point to it.

A temporary address in your name, from day one

Where: Settings › Client portal › Temporary address

Your portal is online right away at https://yourfirm.ledgerapp.ca, with nothing to set up: invitations, sign-in links and notices use it until your own domain is active. The name can be changed, and the old one forwards to the new one. Once your domain is active, the temporary address forwards to it: no link already sent breaks.

Portal emails go out in your firm's name

Where: automatic

Invitations, notices and sign-in links show your firm's name as the sender, in your client's language. When your client replies to an email, the reply goes to the team member who took the action (deposited, requested, wrote), otherwise to the person responsible for the file.

Forgot password and sign-in link, on your domain

Where: the portal sign-in screen, on your client's side

Reset and sign-in links your client requests bring them back to your domain, in your name. The screen answers the same whether the address is known or not, and slows down repeated requests.

The whole firm sees the whole portal

Where: Client portal

Every active member now sees all portal clients, their documents and their messages. File-by-file sharing stays with financial-statement files: seeing a client's portal does not open their accounting file.

A more comfortable portal

Where: Client portal, firm side and client side

  1. F5 leaves you where you were: the headquarters tab, the open client, its section and the conversation live in the page address, which you can share with a colleague.
  2. The client portal pages use the width of the screen: documents, files to provide, signatures and invoices breathe on a large display.

The desktop agent, one click from the headquarters

Where: Client portal › Desktop agent button (top right)

The button downloads the latest version of the desktop agent for Windows. To connect a machine: launch the agent, then enter the code it shows in Settings › Security › Connected computers.

Categorize money out before money in

Where: Engagement › Bank transactions, next to the search

An All / Money out / Money in filter isolates an account's expenses or deposits, with their count: handy to categorize every expense before moving on to revenue. On a credit card, a purchase counts as money out, just like in the table's columns. See Import a bank statement.

GST/QST quick method: a template for each period's remittance

Where: Engagement › GST-QST (Quick method) › Entry › By period

The Period remittance template lays out the entry ready to post: taxes at the regular rate, GST/QST to remit, taxable benefit, and capital asset credits when there are some, each line described. Your accounts are remembered from one period to the next. After Post the entry, the confirmation gives the entry number, and a period already posted is flagged. See Sales taxes.

Invoices: the number shown up front, and replaceable

Where: Client invoices › New invoice

The Invoice no. field shows the number the invoice will get, and the preview already displays it. You can replace it: a number already in use is refused before saving, and Use brings back the automatic number. Automatic numbering then carries on without ever creating a duplicate.

Invoices: QuickBooks keeps up on its own, and duplicate numbers are handled

Where: Client invoices (QuickBooks connected)

An invoice goes to QuickBooks as soon as it is sent to the client or marked paid; drafts stay in Ledger. A correction made later in Ledger (lines, amounts, date, customer) follows there too, and each line keeps its QuickBooks item. The row's QB badge turns green once the invoice is linked, and red if QuickBooks refuses: hover for the reason, click to retry. If QuickBooks already has an invoice with the same number, Ledger links to it when it is the same one (same customer, same total); otherwise it asks whether to link it or create another.

September 16 to 26, 2026: the client portal

Where: Client portal menu (depending on your plan)

The portal gives each client a secure, bilingual space in your name. The main pieces, all detailed in the help:

  1. The headquarters: overview with counters and a To handle queue, Clients, To sign, Messages and Activity tabs, and a portal page per client in eight sections.
  2. Documents: three families (uploaded by the client, shared, internal), standard folders, review of received files (mark reviewed, ask for a replacement, internal note), a "Who opened this document" log and a 14-day trash.
  3. Document requests: for one client or several at once, reusable templates and scheduled reminders every morning at 9 a.m. Eastern time, with a cap.
  4. Signatures: signature, initials and date zones placed on the PDF, firm signature, annotations, reminders, a sealed signed copy and an acknowledgment.
  5. See as the client: their real screen, read-only, with what is hidden from them.
  6. Client side: a "To do" home, files to provide (photo on a phone), guided signature, messages, invoices payable online and email notices they can turn off.

September 9, 2026

The Quick Method now supports Ontario (HST)

Where: Engagement › Worksheets › GST-QST Quick Method › Configuration

The Quick Method worksheet only served Quebec clients (GST + QST). It now supports Ontario. A Province selector appears in the configuration, pre-filled from the client's address and editable. The calculation and the presentation adapt to the chosen regime.

  1. Quebec: two taxes (GST 5% + QST 9.975%), two remittance rates and two columns, as before. Nothing changes for your Quebec engagements.
  2. Ontario: one harmonized tax (HST 13%), so one remittance rate and one column. The reduced rate is 8.8% for services and 4.4% for goods. The 1% credit on the first $30,000 and ITCs on capital assets apply on both sides.
  3. A "How does the Quick Method work?" link opens help with the rate table and sources (CRA, Revenu Quebec).

A scrollbar at the top of the trial balance

Where: Engagement › Trial balance

On a large trial balance, the horizontal scrollbar sat all the way at the bottom: you had to scroll down to pan the columns sideways, then scroll back up to read. A second scrollbar, at the top of the grid, now lets you move the columns without scrolling down. Both scrollbars stay in sync.

Back to the trial balance from Bulk grouping

Where: Engagement › Worksheets › Tools › Bulk grouping edit

A "Back to trial balance" button at the top of the tool returns to the engagement in one click, once the batch of groupings is applied.

Reorder financial statement notes by drag and drop

Where: Engagement › Financial statements › Notes and schedules

Changing the order of a note or schedule used to mean clicking the small Move up / Move down arrows several times. You can now grab a note by its handle (the icon on the left) and drop it straight where you want it. The arrows are still available. Mandatory notes (for example Note 1) stay locked at the top and don't move.

The trade name is pulled automatically into the notes

Where: Engagement › Financial statements › Notes and schedules › "Trade name" note

The "Trade name" note ("doing business as") used to require retyping the name by hand. It now automatically pulls the trade name from the client sheet. Fill it once on the client, and the note reads correctly in the report.

September 8, 2026

Change the grouping of several accounts at once

Where: Engagement › Working papers › Tools › Bulk grouping edit

After an import, fixing mappings one account at a time is slow. The new tool lists the engagement's accounts with checkboxes: check, pick a grouping once, apply. Same effect as editing rows one by one in the trial balance: the IGRF follows the catalog (and your firm's custom codes), nothing else moves.

  1. Shift + click checks a range; the header checkbox checks everything the search shows.
  2. The action bar only appears with a selection; only checked accounts are touched, and changing the search clears the selection (never a checked account out of sight).
  3. After applying, Undo stays available for a few seconds: every account gets back the exact grouping it had.

A due date on custom pipeline tasks

Where: Pipelines › open a card of a custom pipeline › Due date field

Free-form pipelines (payroll, special mandates, T1s) had no deadline at all: a grey badge on every card, empty Deadlines and Calendar views. Pick a date in the card's sheet and it behaves like a T2 engagement: red (overdue) or amber (≤ 14 days) badge on the kanban, presence in the List, Deadlines and Calendar views, alerts on the dashboard tile. T2/CO-17 and GST/QST pipelines do not change: their deadlines stay computed automatically.

  1. On a recurring card, the delay follows: "due 15 days after period end" carries over to every generated occurrence (perfect for the 15th-of-the-month source deduction remittances).
  2. A card without a due date stays allowed: grey badge, no alert.
  3. The dashboard timeline now merges pipeline deadlines (GST/QST and custom) with engagement filing dates: each line carries its source's label (the pipeline's name, or "Financial statements" for engagements), most urgent first. Cards moved to the last column no longer appear.

Your production pipelines, visible right on the dashboard

Where: Dashboard (as soon as Ledger opens)

One tile per pipeline, between the indicators and your files: the board's name, its active card count, a progress bar in the kanban columns' colors and, only when warranted, the overdue and ≤ 14 d badges, computed exactly like on the board (T2, CO-17, GST/QST). Cards whose period has not ended yet (recurrences, next fiscal years) are counted separately as "upcoming": they enter neither the bar nor the alerts.

  1. Hover a bar segment: the stage and its count (“In progress: 4”).
  2. Click the tile: the Pipelines page opens directly on that board, with the full detail.
  3. A pipeline without cards stays visible with “No active cards”. Nothing to configure; the strip shows the whole firm regardless of the selected filter, and disappears if no pipeline exists.

Financial statement schedules, by section or by line item

Where: Engagement › Financial statements › Open print preview › Schedules button

Show a single line on the income statement (“Cost of goods sold (schedule A)”) and print the breakdown on the schedules page. Each schedule, lettered A, B, C, covers one or more expense sections, or a single line item (for example Rent), with two levels of detail: by grouping or by general ledger account.

  1. + Add a schedule: pick a template (cost of goods sold, selling expenses, operating expenses, financial expenses) or “Custom”.
  2. + Add a section or a line item: the menu offers both groups.
  3. Tick Fold to a single line on the income statement: the covered section becomes one line with the (schedule A) reference. Unticked, the detail stays on the statement and the reference is still added.

The schedule total always equals the folded line. Presentation only: income, groupings and GIFI never change, and the configuration carries forward at rollover.

Statement titles editable in one click

Where: FS print preview › click a title

When a catalog term does not fit the client (“Raw material purchases” for a service business), fix it right on the preview: hover a section heading, a subtotal, the gross margin or a total, click, type, Enter. Clearing the field restores the original label. Per engagement and per language (switch the preview to French and edit again for the French version); carried at rollover; the figures never move.

Notes per account on the trial balance

Where: Trial balance › bubble icon on the account row

A free note per account, plus an optional short reference (“n/m”, “sch. 1 T2”) shown as a token next to the description, Caseware style. The bubble turns amber when a note exists; hovering shows the text. Notes stay internal (never printed on the financial statements) and follow the account if it is renumbered.

Protected TB accounts

Where: Trial balance (automatic)

An account holding engagement data can no longer be deleted: a dialog lists what is holding it (entries, transactions, reconciliations). A zero balance is not enough, a reconciled-to-zero account still holds data. And renumbering an account propagates the new number everywhere: entries, transactions, reconciliations, rules, worksheets, attachments and notes.

Where: Settings › Printing › Logo size

Small, Medium (the historical rendering) or Large, with a live preview. The setting applies to all engagements of the firm; letters keep their compact letterhead.

Adjustable column widths

Where: Trial balance and Chart mapping

Drag the right edge of a header (Account #, Description, Grouping; on the reconciliation: number, description, suggestion) to widen or narrow the column. Double-click the handle: default width. Remembered on your workstation, without touching your colleagues' grids.

The reconciliation's Suggested / chosen code column is now wider by default, and hovering a truncated code shows the full label, without opening the menu. Spreadsheet columns drag the same way.

The TB scrolls instead of crushing columns

Where: Trial balance (automatic)

With many columns showing, the description and grouping now keep a readable width and the overflow scrolls left to right, with the bar visible at the bottom of the window. No more hiding columns to read.

Spreadsheets: import Excel, with Excel's fluidity

Where: Engagement › Worksheets › Spreadsheets › Import Excel

Your existing Excel working papers come in as they are: every non-empty tab becomes a sheet, with live formulas, bold, $ and % formats, and column widths. To reuse a template on another engagement, re-import the same file.

  1. Arrows: navigate. Type: replace. F2 or double-click: edit in place. Enter/Tab: confirm and move. Escape: cancel.
  2. Pasting a range copied from Excel fills the grid from the chosen cell.
  3. Quebec amounts count: “12,5”, “1 234,56 $”, thousand spaces.

Date, address and page number on PDFs

Where: browser print dialog (Ctrl+P) › More settings

Those lines come from the browser, not from Ledger. Untick Headers and footers once: the setting sticks and the PDF comes out exactly like the preview.
